Bobo

Bobo is Walter’s friend and wishes to invest in the business with Walter. Bobo is not very bright and looks for Walter to make the decisions. He thinks of Walter and Willy Harris as the brains in the operation. Bobo is very polite and simple. I would have Afemo Omilami play the role of Bobo.

Lena Younger

I would cast Elisabeth Omilami as Lena Younger because of her various strong roles. Mama is not very educated but has a very strong character who is very religious, and whose main objective is to buy her family a home. Elisabeth Omilami fits Mama’s description of a heavier set woman in her mid-sixties. Mama has a very strong character she is not very educated but is a smart woman. She feels like she is losing control of her family, Walter wants to invest the money, Beneatha does not believe in God, and Ruth wants to have an abortion. Mama buys the house because she and Walter Lee Sr. always wanted to own a home and also because she sees what’s happening to her family.

Karl Lindner

Karl Lindner is a representative from the Clybourne Park Improvement Association.  He was elected by the Association to buy the property from the Younger’s because the community believes “negro families are happier when they live in their own communities”. Karl Lindner is gentle man and was elected for this  mission for that reason. The role of Karl Lindner would be well played by Bob Saget because of his soft-spoken way.

Travis Younger

Travis Younger is Ruth and Walter’s only child. Travis is spoiled and plays his parents against each other.  He asks his mother for fifty cents, Ruth tells Travis she does not have any money, Travis insists on asking for money and asks his father and is given the fifty cents. Travis is very protected by four adults in the household he is not allowed to stay out after dark. For Travis I would cast Tyler James Williams because of his role in Everybody Hates Chris.

George Murchison

George Murchison is a wealthy African American he dresses well and likes Beneatha but believes she doesn’t need anything else. George states Beneatha is a “nice-looking girl” and that is all she will ever need. George is looking for a trophy wife and has given into the white way of life because he has money. George believes he is superior to Beneatha’s family because he has money. George calls Walter “Prometheus” after Walter tries to attack him by stating his shoes are “faggoty-looking”. George is very arrogant and does not try to hide it. George’s character would be best portrayed by Terrance Howard. Terrance is a very good looking man and has played some great roles in his career.

Joseph Asagai

Joseph Asagai is a Nigerian native who is very intellectual and is very polite. Asagai is very proud of his nationality and very in touch with his roots. He brings Beneatha some Nigerian robes and records. He also believes African American women “mutilate their hair”. Asagai also has a very playful side and teases Beneatha very often. Asagai is not wealthy and believes in doing well for his country and even asks Beneatha to go to Africa with him. I would cast Djimon Hounsou as Joseph Asagai, he fits his physical description would be perfect for the role.

Beneatha Younger

Beneatha Younger is twenty years old. Beneatha has big dreams but is also very young at heart. Beneath dream is to become a doctor but changes her mind very often. Beneatha states she is in search of herself. She is young and educated and her main objective in the beginning of the play is to become a doctor, her objective often shifts from finding herself to becoming a doctor. Bennie doesn’t believe in God and tells her mother that things are accomplished by men and not by God. Bennie has two men in her life, George and Asangai. She really cares about Asangai and feels like she is just having fun with George because he takes her to nice places. Beneatha is not as pretty as her sister in-law, but has something that makes her attractive. Bennie is also very slender and resembles her brother. I would cast Nia Long because of her physical appearance and the outspoken roles she has played.
