Walter Lee Younger
Walter Lee Younger is in his mid thirties is slender and tall. Walter’s only objective is to make money. Walter wants his father’s life insurance money to open a Liquor store with his friends Willy Harris and Bobo. Mama refuses to give Walter the money because she wants to buy a house and pay for Beneatha’s studies. Walter is emasculated throughout the play by his mother, wife, and sister. Walter Lee has become obsessed in becoming rich he forgets to put his family’s needs first. Walter states in the play “invest big, gamble big, hell, lose big if you have to”. Walter became fixated with the money, he takes the money Mama gave him to deposit and gables it all away on the liquor store. Walter loses big when Willy Harris runs away with all of the money. Walter owns up to his mistake in the end of the play and puts his family first by telling Mr. Lindner his family is a proud family and will move into the neighborhood. I would cast Don Cheadle for the role of Walter Lee Younger. Don Cheadle fits Walter’s description and is also a great actor that can possibly play any role.
